There is a lot of discussion in the news lately about the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine being heralded as a possible treatment for the corona virus.  Some argue that until it can pass a double-blind full-bore study and show efficacy, it should not be used.  Others say that there is enough preliminary data that it seems to help, what can it hurt?  Who is right?

This reminds me very much about the tension between faith and science.  Many who tout science are quick to dismiss or denounce religion or faith as having no credible part in society.  Adherents are labeled as uneducated, misinformed, and those are some of the kinder adjectives.  But what if those following religion know something that the expert scientists do not?  What if they are right, but can’t prove it in a way that makes the scientists happy?

What if all the doubters of hydroxychloroquine find out later that it really does help?  What if those who don’t believe in God discover after death that they were wrong as they look up to heaven versus looking down from it?

This tension is one of the biggest themes explored in the Dreamer Series, both in Call of Kayden and in Free to Dream.

In these books, religion is banned and everything is based on the established laws of science.  But the reality is, that a belief set exists defies all the known tenants of science.  There is a magic of sorts present that can alter the believed rules of science, something that should not be possible.  Gabriel, the main character, discovers this for himself and has to decide what he is willing to believe going forward.  Is he going to hold to the government line, or is he going to open his mind to embrace a new reality based on faith?

“The logic of science is not equipped to explain faith.”  Raelynn answered.  “Faith is hope personified into reality.  You cannot explain it with logic, but yet it exists.  It manifests itself in those who reach for it.  And yet, it also offers itself to those who are chosen and respond to its call.  Gabriel, you were chosen in the cosmos of the universe, yet you are uncertain of your loyalties, your past, your future, and the path you need take in your life.  The path to faith requires you but to take one step.  Step toward the path that does not seem to be there, but still trust that it will accept your weight and lead you to where you need to go.”
